Building my first ebike from a Luna kit was easy. I'm an older guy with some physical issues so this machine is my "mobility enabler", allowing me to get around the suburbs in comfort and style. The biggest single issue for me is the weight of the battery, so I am very happy to have found the Killer Whale, which makes excellent use of space and packaging. Having proper cells inside is a big deal, so having the assurance that these are not only sourced correctly but also tested makes me confident that Luna is the only sensible place for me to do business.

I ride 3000-4000 miles a year on a traditional road/mountain bike and never thought about adding a ebike to the stable until I read a article in Mr. Money Mustache in May 2017. That day changed my life. 1700 miles later I still can't wipe the smile off my face. The bike has been a blast to ride. I commute to work now which I never did before. I decided to convert my utility bicycle to e-assist to make it easier to haul my cargo trailer and my son's tag-a-long bike. I went with the Bafang BBS02 mid-drive system, and decided to go with Luna Cycles due to their extensive lineup of kits and batteries as well as parts and support. The ordering and shipping process went smoothly with no issues, and even when the programming cable didn't work, Luna was quick to send a replacement.

The Hills in Switzerland are to steep for the motor. I have fried 2 motors already. I need a safety cut out switch and probably different gearing before I try it with a 3rd motor....

I bought my Luna Cycle back in June primarily for hunting and scouting the woods. It’s been an awesome hunting tool for getting my stands in the woods and a huge time saver! When I’m not using the bike for hunting I have a blast ripping around back woods trails. The bike floats over rocks and branches and effortlessly climbs hills. I’m 6’5” 225 pounds and where an above knee prosthetic, the bike has allowed me to mountain bike with my buddies without an issue. Everyone that tries the bike is blown away by its performabce. I love the bike and the adventures it allows me to experience. The guys at Luna build an awesome bike!

I had this idea to build an Art Bike for Burning Man. The first thing I bought for the project was a BBSHD. It all worked perfectly.

With a little research and elbow grease, I’ve got an awesome ebike. My experience and results were so good, I’m building another.

I had the 3kW Cyclone on the bike for about 9 months and decided to try the Mini. Also to try the Kelly controller upgrade. Mechanically the swap was very easy; I reused the the 3kW mounting plates and chainwheel assy. Never even touched the right mounting plate! The Kelly controller was plug and play but I'm glad I checked the programming before riding it; it was set at 100% power which would be way too much for the Mini. As far as performance the Mini has lots of top-end; not so good with start-up torque at least compared to the 3kW. It seems louder than the 3KW too; but that might just be that it's a higher-pitched sound.

It well and I only had to buy two extra cables to finish the installation. I'm buying her another to put on her other bike for backup. She does long trips and doesn't drive. Need to find a solar charging set up though.

Do it yourself 100mm BBSHD kit installed 2 hours on Framed Alaskan fatty. Shark 52v batt securely fits inside frame bag. 36T front perfect for all off-road terrain. No problems this set up with chain alignement 11 gears. PAS level 1 ideal for most riding.

I wanted to wait until I had the set up a year or 1k miles before doing a review but I'm at 6 months and about to crack 900 miles. I got a triangle bag with a 52 volt 17.5 amp hour battery, a BBSHD and 42 tooth Luna Eclipse chain ring (tried the base Baffang and the Mighty Mini). I love my Luna lazy kit! I'm 50 and a smoker that lives on a steep hill so haven't cycled much in recent years. Now I'm back to riding like a kid...mud, rain, snow, stairs, rocks none of it phases the BBSHD. The BBSHD with a 42 tooth Luna Eclipse mated to a wide ratio 11 to 42 tooth cassette makes the bike unstoppable. After setting everything up and undoing and redoing everything to get a chain line that allows use of the lower gears (much help from the guys at Luna with that) I'm having only minor issues with the wear and tear the BBSHD puts on the bike. Since putting this together 6 months ago I've worn 1 cassette, 2 chains and nearly a dozen spokes. Routine maintenance becomes more routine with an e-bike. The only consistent problem is that whenever I ride there is "a nut loose on the saddle"!

Packaged arrived intact and on-time. I had some issue with the battery and support responded promptly by sending a replacement charger. They're have a lot of support forums that they managed that has a lot of information. I will purchase more product from them. I just wish the shipping cost is less.

I’ve recently moved away from my job, and turned a 7 mile daily fatbike commute into 20 miles each way. Not wanting to have to drive my truck everyday, I’ve opted for Luna to set me up with a bbshd kit to get me on a new bike with some electronic doping.

Purchasing the Boris X5 from bikesdirect was a breeze, and Eric at Luna made choosing the mid drive and battery even easier. Shipping was fast, and had the bike easily put together within a week of finally pulling the trigger on the whole setup.

Riding Minnesota brings a lot of different riding conditions, so adding the option of a 29” wheelset with 3” Maxxis Chronicles for fast dry days was an added bonus. Seriously fast was the outcome. The original 4” fatties get their flogging when it snows and when shit gets, well, shitty.

I’ve got 700 miles on the bike now, quickly adding up after 40 miles per day. I’ll ride two or three days a week, and my legs feel like they get the amount of exercise equal to half of the miles logged.

The battery (52V 13.5ah) has enough energy to get me to work, but often times I’m mindful to not get too throttle happy, as I’ve been left with no power for the last few miles when the throttle is too comfy. The next purchase will be a longer running power source.

I’ve got love For Luna! Couldn’t be happier with my purchase.
