Overall experience was excellent! I found the ordering form to be pretty straightforward and I was easily able to plug in the specifications and render the quote before putting it in my cart. The page was super descriptive and I liked that. Fortunately I didn't need any customer service, as the ordering process was pretty seamless and there was so much useful info on the site. One thing I really liked was the countertop arrived very well packaged with the corners well protected. I opened it and found a gorgeous piece of walnut butcher block that way exceeded my expectations as far as quality and aesthetics. I love all of the grain lines and it doesn't scream butcher block either, which is what I was going for. I'm excited to get this piece sealed, finished, and installed. Would definitely order from HLC in the future. Thank you!

countertop came out perfectly and exactly to my specifications. reason for 4 stars review as opposed to 5 is in 2 parts:
1) there was a substantial amount of confusion in providing my specifications, where i had to clarify multiple times. this made me paranoid every time i sent a communication that it would not have been seen/captured.
2) when i was installing the countertop, one of the pieces of wood in the countertop had a hollow middle while i was drilling into it. i'm not sure if this is a quality issue, such as unseen rot or insect damage. luckily, there is no visible damage to the surface of the counter.

I contacted the company with the intention of building a guitar. Telecaster style routering the pickup holes/volume n tone controls and neck slot to attach the Tele neck to it. The square butcher block came 2 inches thick so I planed it down to 1 3/4. Started sanding by hand 400, 800, 2000, then 7000 grit paper. Then take 4 ought steel wool 1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar and let set for 12 days, the wool desolved and rub the solution on the wood to give the aged look. 12 coats of lacquer, attach the neck wire up the controls, knobs, strings and set up. Definitely one of a kind. A bit heavier than others I’ve built from Alder or Popular.

I wish I was good with a computer. I would send over some photos of my finished project. I forgot the gentleman name who helped me greatly after give him length, width and depth of each steps . I had a great experience with this company. My stair treads were all different sizes, each one different by small increments, yet hardwood lumber made it easy to order twenty-four odd sized treads in the same wood, and the price was reasonable. I received them in a timely manner and easily installed them over our existing treads with a little gorilla glue and a mallet. The staircase looks incredible now -- what a difference hardwood lumber made for our home!
