For cradle orthodox who have questions about the Divine Liturgy and for catechumens seeking understanding this book makes it all so clear. There is now a transformation for me each time I attend the Divine Liturgy as I walk from the every day world into the holy world of angels and saints glorifying our Father with the body of the church.

It brought tears to my eyes almost every time I was reading this book: tears of sorrow, tears of mixed emotions ( as I was thinking of my own life), also tears of gratitude for the amazing grace of God by the gentle touch of the Holy Theotokos, tears of joy for the author finding the merciful Theotokos, her encountering with the shopkeeper, the lovely baby foxes, and all those natures in her long walk, all these are not coincidence, nor is my opportunity to find this book which is so nourishing to my hungry soul for searching God’s mercy. God always provides us a way to find Him and understand His truth, no matter how impossible it may be to us. Thanks be to God for all these wonderful writers!

Bread From Home - A Collection of Short Stories, written by Fr. Stephen Siniari is an interesting read, full of intriguing characters with compelling stories. Observing them all is Fr. Naum, a humble and unassuming priest who serves not only his parishioners, but those who cross his path in the community. The people of St. Alexander the Whirling Dervish parish come from all walks of life and range from those who have roots in the community to immigrants who were looking for a better life. Somehow they are drawn to Naum - and often through him, to St Alexander the Whirling Dervish Church. While he may not always be able to help them solve their problems, he does his best work by simply listening to them.
Through vignettes we see the people of Fishtown who are struggling with addiction, loneliness, anger, relationships, illness, and more. Naum is there serving those who come to him, while also living alongside them as a coworker and parish priest. We learn of his life and how he was called to serve the church. Their stories are tough; the light they often receive is a blessing. Lives are entwined. Not all are saved. All are heard and prayed for. Take a visit to this colorful community and experience a unique perspective of the life of a parish priest.

A lot of the books on the topic turn into a hateful treatment of the people struggling with various level of sexual addictions or even just who struggle with objectifying people in general. This book manages to tackle a tough topic in a careful way that doesn't alienate anyone but rather offers an alternate way forward by means of encouraging and pastoral words. Anyone seeking to better understand the struggle of treating all persons with respect and love should be encouraged by this fantastic work.

What an incredible book. I'm 3/4ths of the way done but already my view on the Eucharist, Repentance, and our lives in Christ has changed significantly. All Christians should read this book.

My kids and I love this book! It's a wonderful resource for us as an Orthodox Christian homeschooling family, and I would recommend it for anyone.

I am relatively new to Orthodoxy and I find reading anything by Mathew’s-green enlightening, informative and enchanting.

Very helpful. References to the Patristic commentators are most enlightening.

I read this every morning! This is one of my favorite daily Orthodox devotionals.

I bought this here at AF a long time ago--it was foundational for me and my wife becoming Orthodox. A great book to pass out to enquirers and to refer back to oneself. I particularly liked the chapter "Why go to Church?" …I haven't seen a better explanation anywhere else...

Highly recommended to understand our current milieu. A fascinating read. My wife and I couldn't put it down--how many non-fiction books can you say that about? This can be usefully read in tandem with Eugene (Seraphim) Rose's "Nihilism: The Root of the Revolution of the Modern Age" and Rod Dreher's "Live Not by Lies".
I read this 4th volume first --it stands alone---and am now starting with vol. 1 "The Age of Paradise."

Just what I was looking for. Thank you!

Love it!

Amazing!

I loved the introductions which gave great background for this type of fasting and explanations for various ingredients. Loved it and will buy more to give as gifts!

great !

I am using this book as the basis for our church's Sunday School curriculum. I love how it covers not only the basic beliefs of our Orthodox faith, but also the sacraments.

Much loved. Now I would like to find the book that is more of a children's version with beautiful pictures in it

A wonderful book, well written and helpful.

This is a wonderful resource for kids and adults!!
