Bafang BBSHD Mid Drive Ebike Kit
Received my second bbshd kit with Direwolf battery it’s really nice to be on the throttle more and not worry about getting low on juice. It’s a good time to build a bike if your stuck at home. Luna put 2 types of protective mask in my order because they care about people. Buy from these guys you won’t regret it.

Cirrus BodyFloat 2.1 Suspension Seat Post
This suspension seat post is worth it's weight in gold. If you didn't remember you put it on you'd swear your bike had a well tuned full suspension. Totally worth it if you have a commuter ebike doing any kind of decent speed.

My experience with Luna Cycle has been laudable. The equipment is top shelf. The sales staff and support are completely professional. I am nothing but impressed.

CHARGERS: LUNA ADVANCED - 48V
This charger is great. The fan is much quieter than the last model. LOVE the additional amp display too over the last model. The partial charge feature isn't well executed though. For 80 and 90%, once it reaches the target voltage, the charger keeps on cutting out and turning back on in about 1 to 2 second intervals, which requires that I monitor at all times to make sure that doesn't happen. Still, no other charger that I found at this price has all of these features. I have a couple of other chargers from them that are still working fine after 2 to 3 years.

Luna Fat BABE (Bad Ass Belt Ebike)
East coast Mountain riding. I live near Gettysburg, Pa. I am 70yo. This ebike has it all together. First ride--C&O canal, a mainly flat towpath. To check battery performance I did a 17 mile out and back--total 35 miles. Tire pressure 25. I could not believe it but I had 50% battery power left on completion of ride. I toggled back and forth between PAS 2 and 3. Also on a 1 mile section I rode battery power only, no peddling. on packed towpath, PAs 3 I could sit back and easily do 15mph in 5th gear. The fat tire babe smooths out the roots unbelievable. I was very impressed. While on the flat gravel and dirt surface I went for top speed---PAS-5 peddling fairly hard, 5th gear I was able to barely hit 25mph, So, the 30mph is a reach. Going down hill on rides around home 30mph is no problem. I did have 15mph winds. All in all very excited and happy with the day--everything worked.
Ride #2 For anyone interested--Find Chimney Rock, Pa on Google maps, go north to see Gas line I followed from Old Forge road West. Heading west on gas line which here and there is somewhat a service road or just grass then hill climb-500ft in 1/2 mile. I don't know the angle for sure but my experience from my snowboarding app I would guess 25 degrees, The Babe did great. The last 100' up was loose gravel and I was able to peddle no problem. Throughout the day I would descend and ascend 3 ridgetops for a total of 18miles out and back. I also did hiking trails along with the gas line. The trail had tons of rocks and this is where I learn my first lesion. The crank drive with the Gates belt is lower than my Santa Cruz, I bottomed out on 3 different times jumping rocks, 2 on motor and once on the belt---I stopped and checked the belt out and all was ok but I would caution--highly caution not to let this happen. The sprocket has a slight wobble so the impact was hard enough to put a small bend in the sprocket. The belt seems ok but I have learned from experience, replace now. As far as proformas I could not be happier. Using mainly PAS 2 and 3 I was able to climb from valley to ridge 3 different time. In the valleys there was some marsh or just wet areas where the tires went in maybe 1-2 inches--no problem. 5 stream crossing, all a foot or less deep--no problem. loose gravel was fun with spinouts and spitting gravel all over. I had two major braking times, while descending the ridge I saw a stand of short pine trees with no clear way through, at the last second I realized it, traveling maybe 20-25 I pull hard on the brakes and this great big grin came across my face as the bike popped to a stop--unreal. Second time I was burning down on a hiking trail with on and off rock gardens and all was good, then up ahead the trail made a 90degrees left(I did not know this) with jagged granite rocks 3-4' if I did not make the turn, again the brakes held with no fade (compare to my Santa Cruz these are better with a heavier bike) Tire pressure for this ride was 15psi. I may try less the next time out but at 15psi I was truly impressed, I was able to climb boulders with just a touch on the throttle to keep momentum going and many other times where a little kick helps keep the speed up. On the hill climbs I did use PAS 4 and 5, in 2nd gear PAS 5 you will climb anything you can walk up just about. These tires have super grip so be careful on doing spin-outs as the tires will catch and the bike might get away from you--course I am an old man. If this bike continues to handle this type of riding I will be so happy I choose LUNA. Thanks LUNA !!!

Bafang BBSHD Mid Drive Ebike Kit
I love the bafang bbshd, I ordered from Luna. Everything works great and the bike is a blast to ride. Unfortunately I crashed on the bike, got my pants stuck in the sprocket, and tumbled into a 3foot deep concrete drainage culvert. Broke my wrist, requiring surgery, won’t be able to climb back on for another six weeks. Miss riding my Luna bike already.
Everything came as expected and was in great condition.

Luna Crank Arms *
When I was researching building my own electric bike there wasn’t a place where I could basically go to get everything I needed until I found Luna Cycle. All around great products, especially the Luna name brands. Will continue to purchase from them in the future.

Sur-Ron Pedal System
My recommendation is to only buy this kit if you absolutely need to bypass certain laws. The quality is cheap, the design is not that great. The pedals are the cheapest you can get on a kids bike. I purchased better pedals knowing this. The cranks are of low quality and have an unrefined finish. I would not want to jump on these cranks in fear of them breaking. The sprocket and housing seem sturdier but I still would not trust them under hard use. I heard that the housing bearing can back out and damage the whole unit. I used Blue Locktite but it still backed out and loosened. Too much trouble to keep removing rear wheel to retighten after every couple of rides. The spindle came assembled but only came with light packing grease on the bearings(not enough for use). There are too many drawbacks with this pedal kit for me to leave it on my Sur Ron. Beside the things mentioned before, I’ll list some more negatives.
1) Creates more drag on the motor.
2) Reduces power to rear wheel from the increased drag.(minimal)
3) Reduces travel distance from extra drag on motor(significant)(biggest reason for me to remove)
4)Slightly louder from extra sprocket
5)The pedal are too far rearward, which changes balance point, increases unwanted “wheelies”, awkward position(you may get used to it)
6) Rear suspension is negated if standing on pedals, due to the pedals and cranks being connected to the swing arm. The bumps get directly transferred to you feet and body while standing. This does not affect the suspension as much when in the seated position.
The only positive for me is street legality and trail access. The law has not been affecting my riding access, street or trail, where I live.
I ended up removing the kit as I couldn’t live with all the negative ways it affected my bike. It turned a GREAT Sur Ron bike into a bit so great bike.
Two stars is being generous but I know the pedal kit serves a purpose. Take this review for what it’s worth. It simply did not work for me. If you don’t NEED it, don’t buy it. If you need it, we’ll then, buy it. Enjoy your Sur Ron! We have 2 and they are AWESOME!
