For years I wanted to build an electric downhill bike and when I finally saved up and pulled the trigger I ended up getting the bbshd mid drive and couldn't be happier with the results. I live in an area where there are a lot of train tracks and pot holes so I knew I needed to get something that could handle the bumps and stop me on a dime. I bought a cheap bike of Craigslist which ended up being a money more work than it was worth, so I saved up for something a little better and this bike was up to the task and has become my daily commuter. I cruise to and from work at a comfortable 30 mph and turn heads both ways. On the weekends I take it out on trials and the mighty mini chain ring makes a mockery of the steepest of hills. The added weight of the battery and motor keep me grounded quite well, which can be frustrating when trying to go off jumps but is much appreciated when going down a steep technical grade out making quick stops... I don't have to worry about going over THESE handlebars!

Overall, this bike has been one of the best investments I've made in years. It has paid itself off many times over in pure stress relief alone. So far 500 miles and not a single problem.

What a nice set up. My light weight Trek Pure model was hardly ridden so why not “ebike-it” for the city hills of San Luis Obispo. I am 225 and 72yo and find myself jumping away at stop lights and at 20mph when I want to work around traffic. The disassembly of the bottom bracket on the bike was hard as everything was very tight from the factory and never meant to be disassembled but once I succeeded I found the Luna Kit easy to assemble via many videos on YouTube. I have about 36 miles on it and am into my second charge. Just love it and get many compliments every where I go. I love the power and simplicity and know that if I want to change it to another frame one day that is an option.

I converted two Electra aluminum frame bikes. A Townie for my wife and a Cruiser for myself. The aluminum frames ( Steel frames do not) have a perfect 68mm internally threaded bottom bracket with plenty of space around the BB to easily fit any of the units. I used the BBS02 for weight savings. These units have plenty of power and with the appropriate chain ring for your situation, it will perform beyond expectations for most folks.

The install was easy without any surprises. Chain ring alignment was near perfect without any spacers. The Townie has some internal control cable routing in the frame that I utilized with an extension cable for a custom look. I upgraded to the Luna 750 color display that looks fantastic and well worth the premium.

Performance is great and runs extremely quiet. I painted the unit on the Townie an aluminum color to match the bike’s paint scheme. With the aluminum frame and the lighter BBS02, my wife can lift (with battery off) and carry the bike up the stairs for storage without any difficulty.

The quality of the unit and accessories was excellent. All the parts assembled and fitted together smoothly with a very high quality finished end result. Battery selection is important and the information provided on the Luna Cycle web site is excellent and should be followed so you are not disappointed with the unit. I went with a 20 ah in 48v for myself and a 15ah for my wife. My bike has a “bit” more weight to push around and the extra amp hours makes up for that. I would guess 10-15 ah would be enough for some folks, but pick the right capacity for your situation.

These are the 5th and 6th bike conversions I have done and my first mid drive units. All of the previous conversions are still on the road and one has several thousand miles logged and is still going strong.

Installation was very straight forward and anyone that is handy with tools should have little difficulty. It really is very easy and the videos are good and show you step by step how to do it. The only tough part is getting the old crank off the bike and requires a special tool. I purchased one for about $12, but you could take the bike to any bike shop for removal. I highly recommend the Luna tool to tighten the mid drive unit on the bike.

Performance is great, around 30mph top end. Plenty of pulling power in the low gears.

This is a high quality unit with upgraded and tougher internal components. You will be very pleased with the finished product.

Luna has great service

I had to use a dremel tool to grind the center of the Day6 bottom bracket to fit the motor through. The bottom bracket was about .5 mm too small in the unthreaded center part, filing was taking too long so I used a sanding drum on a dremel tool.

Have ordered multiple parts and controls for my Bafang mid drive on my HPC Revolution. They are accessible by phone with any questions and shopping is fast and easy. Would recommend this site.

I purchased my first Light Bee from Luna Cycles last Dec. 2017. My only complaint was that all my friends wanted to ride it and test it out. I finally ran out of patience standing around waiting for my turn and purchased my second bike this July. Now I can share in the fun with family and friends! Love the blue and new colors coming out!

I had an older Tidal Force electric and its battery was could barely get me the 28 mile round trip needed. So I decided to get a Carbon Electric Bike to handle my 28 mile round trip work commute and be able to go up in the mountains on weekends. After searching around, they were around 8K and above, not exactly in my budget range. I started looking around and found Luna Cycle and was quite pleased with the emphasis on safety and long range batteries and loved the price of their kits. I decided on the BBSHD so I could handle both the commute and some weekend climbing. Next I needed a bike. I wanted full suspension so after much looking, discovered a used Rocky Mountain Sherpa for a reasonable price on EBay. Over Christmas, I ordered the kit from Luna and then had my bike shop help assemble the final product. After my first ride of 28 miles for my commute, I had over 75% of my battery remaining so was quite impressed and feel it will be able to do 2-3 round trips on one charge which way exceeded my expectations. After all was said and done, I built this beautiful electric bike for under 4K. I am really happy with the kit and the build as I will now get to ride around on my new electric art!

The Luna Lander Air Suspension Fork was easy to install on my Sondors X. The fork fits well on the Sondors x fat with 4,9" fattires. Good Job on all terrain with the rebound damper. Thank you lunacycle for fast delivery to Germany.

sorry for my english I'm italian, people are looking for the best way to hide as much as possible the electrical parts that are mounted by the electric kits the bag can be a good hiding place would need a few centimeters more taking the measurements of a standard battery

Great time putting together the build. Some basic instructions would have been nice but even without everything was intuitive enough to figure out.

Easy install. No issues

1995 Schwinn with Magic Pie 5 front wheel. Front fork was Rock Shoc aluminum fork but it was not robust enough. Swapped the Rock Shox aluminum arms and installed a cheap-o steel armed over the Rock Shoc guts.

Went pretty smoothly. My neighbor had the Luna tool kit (which was invaluable) I was a little nervous and had a few questions. Joel from customer support was able to answer all of them.The final result was well worth the effort.Always wanted a electric bike , now I got one. It's a blast plus gives my 60 year old knees a break on the hills.

The bike Shop said that it was impossible to fit the bafang and keep all my speed, so i had to make myself to fit all and very well surprise of the result!

This is my wife's road bike and she is not a fan of high speeds or jackrabbit acceleration. As such, I needed to tame the beast significantly or she would never have ridden it a second time. I accomplished this by modifying the motor controller parameters stored in flash memory inside the controller. This was easily done using the widely acclaimed BafangConfigTool V2.0 programming application upgraded by Stefan Penov (available at https://penoff.me/category/projects/e-bike-conversion/) and a Luna BBSxx programming cable.

My goal was to make Assist Level 1 barely noticeable with each level above that providing only a minor increase in assist (relatively speaking) over the previous level with level 9 providing the full hot-rod assist that the controller came with. When using the throttle, I wanted the acceleration and top speed to be similarly tempered by the selected Assist Level.

NOTE: The maximum bike speed and the number of available assist levels are set in the display using special combinations and sequences of the Pwr, + & - buttons. See instructions specific to your display.

this is a great bike i have had it for a month now and have had so much fun on it i have not found a place it will not take me. I have ridden it hard in very rugged terrain in the mountains. have not had anything brake only thing i have done is clean it oil and tighten the chain. looking forward to up grades not that it really need any. always fun to put modes on bikes. This was my first build and I have to say it was a lot easier then I thought it would be I did a lot of research on the bike and the motor before I spent $2200.00 dollars and it really paid off,it took me about 2 hours to install the BBSHD kit on a Motobecane Boris X5.
