Great experience with ordering my motor kit. I'm glad that I had a friend who had gone though the whole process already because it wasn't easy to decide on all the different things that I was going to need.

WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IN TO THE ELEC. BIKES I GOT STUFF LIKE FREE WHEELS TICS, AND AN EXTRA BB GEAR. NOW I'M GLAD THAT I GOT THE GEAR. I NOW HAVE A HI & LOW GEAR TO CHOSE FROM.

This old Trek has a 73 mm bottom bracket, so the install required some washers for spacers. I also had to put a hole through the metallic part of the battery cradle so the battery can use the bottle screws and still fit on the down tube. That was about it for hacks that were needed for the hardware. The kit came from Luna with a compatible 48 V, 11.5 AH battery, so no soldering needed. Rim brakes are a plus to easily make use of the e-brake cutoffs. I got a Luna 42 t Lekkie chainring mostly for the offset. It fit without the spacer, and now the bike has a good chain line with no chain drops. I hooked up the programming cable using the very sweet Penoff configuration tool which worked bug free with a Windows Vista laptop and lowered the stop delay from 25 to 15. 250 ms is just too long for the motor to keep going after stopping pedaling. Now it's in the Goldilocks zone. I usually use PAS 2 or 3 which lets me comfortably control how much exercise I get and how far I can go without recharging, and I can hit the throttle whenever I need speed to make a light, or power to go up a steep hill. I'm 185 lbs and the BBS02 has all the speed and power I need. This was my first e-bike conversion and it was a blast to do. The only thing more fun is riding it, and the only thing better than having a bike customized for you is doing it yourself.

Wonderful easy installation, Now riding on the beach is so much better, instead of average of 7 mph, I can cruise along at 15 mph with ease.

My buddy did his e-bike research and decided that the Luna BBSHD was the way to go.
After a couple months chasing him on my regular all-mountain bike, and occasionally riding his e-bike, I started studying Luna Cycle, Electric Bike & Electric Bike Blog. Reading about how Luna makes batteries, and how reliable the BBSHD had proven itself with some pretty serious e-bike trail riders, I soon became convinced that a Luna BBSHD with a 52 volt battery was how I wanted to go electric. Now I need to go to the gym and work on my upper-body strength to muscle around my 65 pound 2007 e-stab deluxe for the technical trail riding we do. Between weather & work, I have not been able to ride as much as I would like, but feeling free to explore whatever I see instead of rationing my own strength so I can make it back home, has been quite the pleasant change. I am using the very nice Luna 36 tooth narrow-wide gear in front and an 11-34 cassette in the rear, and even with this mountain gearing I have been able to get as much as 36 mile range, and expect that I will be able to go even faster than the 32.5 mph (powered, not downhill) I have seen so far. Yes - I have the off-road "Hot Rod" programming, so as an e-bike newbie, the BBSHD has almost too much power for me.

Bought the BBS02 Conversion Kit. It was a breeze to install. Anyone with general bicycle mechanics ability can do it. Some minor modifications were needed, but completely expected. Their videos are great. Very helpful. They hooked me up right and my old relic of a bike is now completely awesome!!! Could not be happier. As soon as I have the money, I am converting my beach cruiser. Thanks a million Luna.

Love My BBSHD, I have reached top speed of 33MPH, and distance of over 30 Miles in one day when combined with my 48 volt 14ah battery and 46t lekkie bling ring. Customer service at Luna has been great as well with answering any questions or concerns I've had.

Luna BBSHD is the way to go. Luna was tremendously helpful with any questions I had. Luna has the best performing Ebikes on the market along the best upgrade kits and accessories. I brought a new Giant Talon 3 bike with hydraulic brakes, installed the BBSHD it from Luna with there custom 42T chainring. I brought the full color display and 52 volt 13.5 slim battery. I love this bike. I have an 8 speed cassette and can reach 33 mph in 6th gear. The torque can practically lift your front wheel off the ground if you are not careful. The motor is pretty quiet and super responsive. I will be upgrading my wifes Townie Electra this summer.

The BBS02 and battery were delivered in a well padded box. Installation instructions were sparse, but I found plenty online. I mounted the battery with a din rail & metal clips I attached to a plate. The battery is simply strapped around the plate.

To fit the BBS02 on the Specialized Camber Carbon I had to sand down the bbs02 a bit and file down the drive side of the BB. The bike also uses PF30, so I put a Race face on piece PF30-BSA 73mm adapter.

So far I rode about 3500 miles and charge 2 times per day to 90% (250-ish charges total). The ride is 13.6 miles one way and with a 90% charge I can ride at PAS 2 with occasional PAS 3 on steep hills.

I started out intending to converting an existing bike then got carried away and went with all new parts. Bought a carbon fiber frame, new wheels, fork etc. I am running a 9 speed cassette and went with the hydraulic brakes from luna as part of there Bafang BBSHD 750 Watt kit and the 52V battery. After putting about 75 mi. of mixed riding, (dirt fire trails and flat bike paths) I think the 48t chain ring will be a better choice. I have a 42t on now and I would like a little more speed on the flat stuff. I ride on the Mt. Tam water shed and there are some fairly steep hills and I have never needed the lowest gears. I think this would go straight up a wall if traction wasn't a problem.
I have a little over $2k in the build and I am very happy with the results. I ride with some folks that are on $5-7k bikes and I have more power and range than them and the throttle. When riding on paved paths it's great to blow by the spandex guys on there crazy expensive road bikes without the use of the throttle, just peddling at a nice candence
I am 70 years old and this has allowed me to get back on the hills again without destroying my knees and has improved my golf game because of the increased leg strength. Outdoor exercise is just so much better and more fun

changed the chainring from a 42t to 46t and is faster and battery power eater too. Awesome bike.

This is my first electric bike build with the majority of my e-bike knowledge coming from the Electricbike.com forum. Being a design engineer, I wasn't afraid to tackle a custom build and having LUNA's outstanding support made this a very fun project.

The donor bike for this build is a craigslist find of a Diamondback Sync'r 27.5 hardtail. It had the 1x11 drivetrain and disc brakes that were firm requirements on my list.

I chose the BBS02 to avoid any hassle about the 750 watt power restrictions if I ever happen to get stopped - even though this system puts out 1,300 watts with the 52V shark pack battery. The other reason for using the BBS02 was its compact size. I didn't want a bike that ended up looking like a pieced together kit, so I designed and built the integrated battery case. The case serves multiple purposes such as bolting to the drive unit to function as the anti-rotation bracket, providing a covered wire management space in front of the drive unit, giving a spot to mount the on/off switch, and keeping the center of gravity low. The battery can be removed by taking out 4 bolts. I relocated the charge port to be accessible without removing the battery, so there's never a need to remove the battery except for maintenance. The case is constructed of formed aluminum sheet and then covered with 3M carbon look vinyl wrap. Some quick calculations verified that the 6 riv-nuts connecting the case to the frame will withstand any amount of abuse I can survive myself.

The 11-42 cassette and a Leckie 42T chainring gives a top speed of around 35mph on flat ground (with a slight amount of manual pedaling assistance). I also installed the gear sensor which makes shifting crisp and perfect every time. The DPC-18 display works well and gives a nice graphical indication of power usage, even though the numbers are too small for me to see during the ride.

Overall it has been great working with LUNA. I had a few component issues which were quickly resolved by the great customer and technical service crew.

Now I'm pretty sure I need to build a bike for my wife next, even though she can't imagine why she would need an e-bike. Like most of us, one ride and she will be hooked.
