Bafang BBSHD Mid Drive Ebike Kit
After building my fatbike my wife also wanted something so she could keep up.
We bought this small Fuji Tahoe mtb. Really nice little bike.
The BBSHD is a bit to powerfull for this bike and she didn't like the wheelies so much :-)
I limited the power and speed a bit in the software.
Perfect machine now and she loves it!

Best thing I ever did. Use it every day.

Luna Charge Safe - Lithium Battery Storage Box
Luna was helpful in steering me toward the right model after I listed my requirements. I'm an older, avid bicyclist but gained a lot of weight after permanent knee injuries, so hills (which we have in every direction) were no longer possible for me. That meant I'd be stuck driving to bicycle paths instead of hopping out my door. I wanted to do knee strengthening and weight loss with regular riding. At first, I thought because of my weight that I'd have to get a mountain bike. They advised getting the Momentum i-Street, and it has turned out to be perfect for my needs. Picked the red one and added the fancy pedals.

This bike is a blast. I have 840 miles on it after getting it at the end of August. My knee pain left and knees got strong, although I lost very little weight. The riding did improve my aerobic capacity so that by the time it was too wet and cold to ride, I was in great shape. This bike had me riding more in one season than I ever had in years of riding. It made me WANT to ride.

Luna did a great job of setup, well packed, good communication with shipping company as to when to expect arrival. Everything on the bike worked, so it looks as though they really looked the bike over before sending it out. Computer was easy to learn, nice large display. Bought two 52V batteries and extra charger so if staying in a hotel, I could charge both simultaneously. Also bought Luna's painted metal military box for home fire safety for the batteries. All I had to do was add a rear light, my NiteRider front light, a pannier, pop a water bottle into the cage that sits right in front of me, a very convenient spot considering that, having short arms, reaching down for a bottle is next to impossible for me. So love the cage. Nice sturdy rack and like the elastic straps for holding down items. The seat had to go and a leather Brooks B67s with the bouncy springs replaced the seat it came with. The fancy pedals are extremely grippy, so much so that it's sometimes tough to change foot position. I like the bike but do wish it was an American product. Being Chinese, it probably keeps the cost down. Only problem with the order was that the second charger was missing on bike's arrival, but with a few emails and sending them a picture of the one that did arrive, we got that fixed quickly.

I got about 400 miles out of the chain and had to change out both the replacement chain and the tires at 600 miles. The chain, tires and wheels that the bike come with are inadequate for the stresses a motor puts on them. I put the same type chain back on, but after breaking again, it was clear it needed a much beefier chain. I replaced it with a much heavier chain. The bike rides better and no longer has the problems the original one had with popping off and breaking frequently, rides better, gears/power choice mesh better. If you plan to use up the original chain, I strongly recommend carrying a chain repair tool, an extra chain if original can't be fixed, a baggy and hand wipes because, if you're doing much riding, you'll need them.

I replaced the 28 spoke wheels with heavy duty 36 spoke wheels and tires and tubes that are used by cross country tourers and supposed to be puncture proof . The ride improved greatly from this and the bike felt much more secure. I also went from a free wheel to a 7-speed cassette and spaced it over to improve the chain line, putting the chain more in the middle. (Bike stores sell spacers for this purpose.) This corrected the shifting problems I had with the original setup. It stopped making the strange whining sound with some of the gear/power combinations. The wheels and tires also have built in side reflection which was a plus. At replacement time, the original wheels showed the spokes poking through the frame, the liner for the tube almost dissolved. I went through a few tubes and the tires were completely bald. So I do recommend changing out the tires, wheels, cassette when the originals wear out.

On average was doing 12 to 20 miles most days, hopping right out my door, hills not a problem. Using the 9 power selection, I tended to keep it in 1st to 3rd gear and the 2nd or 3rd power choice. This allowed me to go fast enough while keeping a lot of juice in the battery in case I decided ride longer than my original intention (which happened often). Started doing a lot of backroad adventuring in places I wouldn't have dreamed of going, even in my best health. I was charging to 100% for a while, but then tapered back to 90%, I put stickers on the batteries so as to know which was which, and would switch them out each ride. I've been keeping a log of my miles, battery start/end voltage so I can see how they each perform. I'd start at about 58V, go on a 20 mile ride and end at about 49V on a 100% charge. On a 90% charge, start at 56V, end about the same. I did run out of juice once early on, and had the experience of riding it home as a regular bike. My knees were not happy, but it's do-able.

We took a vacation on Cape Cod to ride the central bike path end to end and back then added a little at the end to be able to see 50 miles on the odo. While I carried the second battery, I didn't have to switch it out. On another 50 mile ride on a different bike trail, I had to switch out batteries at about 44 miles with 45 or 46V left, although I probably could have gone the full 50 miles. I had wrapped the 2nd battery in a towel to protect it from bumps, and covered all with a garbage bag to protect from rain, if needed. I also carried a 2nd garbage bag and packing tape to wrap the battery mounted on the frame in case it rained (which it did). All said, I'd feel safe at low power and using a low gear in going 80 miles with two batteries. It would probably go longer, but I think I can guarantee 80 miles.

The metal ex military can is nice for home use, but too big to carry on the rack for bike touring for safe motel recharging with two batteries. I discovered a red stainless steel bread box would hold two batteries nicely and is small enough to fit on the rack. I'll line it with fireproof padding to protect from bumps at some point. A silicone dish drainer underneath prevents the box from damaging the paint and from sliding around. Amazon sells a corrugated brown one that matches my leather seat and is just the right size. for rack and box.

I have a hitch mount bike rack that holds 90 pounds, the type that's low and you drop the wheels into slots and fasten down a hook over the cross bar for those times when you need to transport the bike a long distance. Good thing because the i-Street is very, very heavy. There's no way I could lift it to the high type carrier. I can just manage to lift it onto the bike slots, but it's tricky. Lifting my steel mountain bike was a challenge, but the i-Street is much heavier. I don't know how much the bike weights so will devise a way to check that in case my other half decides to get an e-bike. One e-bike with a lightweight race bike felt like a safe weight on the rack, but not sure if the rack will safely hold two e-bikes. Would be good if Luna could provide weight info on the bikes so we can stay within weight recommendations for racks.

It's cold as hades outside, snowy, icy, and I'm missing my rides. The indoor trainer just doesn't compare with riding outside. There was another plus to the electric i-Street. My husband, a former bicycle racer, has always had to do his workout rides alone because I couldn't keep up, and then he'd ride with me later. Now I can keep up! He loves it and says he's always wanted to be able to ride fast with me, so it's a plus for both of us.

Bafang Hydraulic and Disc Brake Sensors E-Brake (Pair)
Took less than one weekend to covert a new Electra Townie 27D to a electric BBSHD with 52V 13.5AH battery. The Luna toolkit is a must have. Fortunately, I had the toolkit from the KHS-1000 Fusion Fat bike I purchased from Luna a month prior. The Townie is faster than the Fat bike with Ludicrous option. Only challenge was two additional mounts for the battery which required a rivnut tool. Removing the Townie hand grips with a compressed air was easy once you saw the Youtube video. Seriously easy build with lots on online instructions and videos. My wife drove several 250W & 350W Bosch mid-drives as well as a 500W hub drives (Trek, Townie Go, Pedego, Magnum). Nothing compares to this DIY e-bike. She gets the comfort and upright seating position of the Townie with unmatched hill climbing power. We both could not be happier with this solution.

Cyclone Mid Drive 3000 watt Planetary Ebike KIT
Ordered the 3000w cyclone kit and a dolphin battery. Shipping took forever but there was complications on UPS’s side of the transaction. Everything was good, chainring was bent a bit but was quickly replaced by Luna cycle. I put the kit on my bike within the day that I got it. Super easy if you have the right tools and some bike knowledge. The bike rips, goes about 35-40 on the road and Is way to fast on mountain trails but also way to fun. Still able to shift most ofmy gears too. Like riding a torque filled feather weight dirt bike. Overall, super worth it. Fun experience picking the kit, building the bike, fine tuning the speed and ripping the trails! If you’ve been thinking about getting the cyclone kit. Do it now!

Bought a BBSHD kit, a couple of different chainrings, a 17.5ah triangle pack and a 30Q mighty mini, as well as some odds and ends. I'm no bike mechanic but Luna made the build easy with well-thought out kits and great online community building.

Hardest part was removing bottom bracket. A little grinding of down tube was required inside bottom bracket area. Fit was perfect after that. 750w was plenty of power.

Bafang BBS02 750w Bare Bones Kit
I had always wanted to do a bike with an electric stepper motor and reverse free hub on the crank as I grew up in turramurra, which is aboriginal for “high hills”.... no shit. And as the oldest recorded civilisation the Aussie kooris had plenty of time to make sure the name was right.....
I had the design in my head for years, (though more simple, like the cyclone rather than neat and modular like the bafang... I am ocd adhhd and THC dependent as well as being the laziestmanintheworld@hotmail and so I have a lot of things in my head as well as the rattle and voices head noise, and it was destined to die there as I had always loved motorcycles at our farm where the fuzz had Buckley’s and phuckall chance to catch us in the shit old 4WD they were in those days. I had therefore done a few 66cc -petrol powered ones for the city and my High hills home, so between the teenage weed wastoid and the eventual legal beagle licensed luny on a 2stroke, the old lead acid and permanent magnet motors of the day poisoned the dream long before the expensive disappointment I’d have suffered if I’d pushed on with my Leon Musky ways some 37 years ago when I was 10 and sweating bullets half way up a huge hill in an Aussie summer.,.,.. now I have one less kneecap (actually as or 30 years ago) thanks to my need for speed, Hill flattening power and showing off even when no one present gives two flying turds as the aforementioned 2stroke 2 wheeled Suzuki RG was my love when I finished school and I got a job as a courier rather than the usual path to manhood for aussies.... finish school then head to the Gold Coast for the “ex schoolies Xmas bash ritual” to get laid, drunk and fleeced, though these happen generally in reverse order for most. Just when I should have been up to my nuts in some young darlings guts I was lying in a puddle of blood with a shattered kneecap, vertebrae ulna and a compound fractured femur on Friday Jan 7th 1987, with the culprit being a Pratt in a peougeot who was also a bigwig in the GIO, gov insurance office which handled all third party motor policies, a great idea for controlling the corruption the world Now endures exponentially, but faaaarkmedead was it hard to sue that bastard in court, a government judge with government lawyers protecting gov bigwig using government lackeys (bent police) as there witness.... Debbie the officer that took my statement unfortunately disappeared along with her records when it came time for court and she was replaced by Roger Rogerson’s well rogered son, his love child after a 3some with Lenny McPherson and Mark chopper Reid.

Luna Cycle Ebike Tool Kit
I got my toes wet in the e-bike hobby with a stock 42 volt steel cargo bike with a 750 watt DD rear hub motor. A RadWagon. Most of my riding was for recreation, errands and exercise accompanied by my dog Abby. She absolutely loves riding in the front Yuba basket.

Within a short time I was looking for enhanced hill climbing ability as well as a bit more acceleration for crossing busy roads and intersections. I was happy to find Luna as a US supplier of e-bike goodies and soon ordered a BBSHD kit, two 52 volt 14 ah triangle packs, connectors and a handy dandy tool kit with everything I needed. Installing the kit was straight forward with the tutorials and videos on the Luna site.

I cobbled together a custom enclosure for the empty spot in the frame for the second battery pack. I used foam strips and heavy duty 3M duct tape with plastdip to fabricate it.

Using both motors in tandem, the mid-drive in PAS and the hub motor with the right twist grip, I now have the power to tackle any hill, load or situation. All range anxiety has been eliminated as I can also plug in my original 48 volt dolphin pack with a longish cable extension into either of the motors.

Luna has been indispensable to the success of this project and has contributed to many miles of smiles for Abby and I, currently 1579 miles of smiles.

Later,
Dale

Bafang BBS02 Mid Drive eBike KIT
I first put a 750 watt / 48 volt battery on my Catrike Expedition. Road 5000 miles in about
9 months. With no suspension it was beating me up pretty good. I ride mostly roads that are not as smooth as they could be. I upgraded to the HP Velotechnik full suspension ( it floats over most bumps). The first 750 was trouble free for over 5000 miles so it was a no brainer to get another one, only this time went with a 52 volt battery.
