My first experience with Volunteer World was about a year ago, I had applied to a program with an agency called GoEco, and it didn’t go well at all: after having paid the deposit, I expected to receive more info on the free time activities, but not only it never came, but I actually received more e-mails requesting I paid the deposit. I thought I was being victim of a scam, and ended up cancelling my application. Volunteer World offered to transfer the amount I had paid for the deposit to another program, but I never got their e-mail (my e-mail didn’t work), so they reimbursed me instead. And Linda and I exchanged quite a few messages, it felt they take their job seriously, and it was very reassuring, after the bad experience I’d had. Because of Linda’s good job, I finally decided to overcome the almost trauma and try again, this time when I browse their website, I don’t see any programs with GoEco anymore. I don’t know why, but I’m happy that they are no longer in Volunteer World, giving more people headaches like they did to me.

I applied to two volunteer projects for my stay in Costa Rica. One of them replied almost immediately, giving me all the info I needed. The platform was very supportive and of great help. However, for my second chosen project i have yet to receive a response. Although I believe this is mostly due to the project/organisation not checking on their part, I have attempted to reach out and contact them to no avail. Overall the platform was good for contact and submission, as well as the variety of projects they present is amazing. I’ll probably use it again in the future.
