What a frustrating experience. I placed my order for a butcher block countertop and two floating shelves. Soon after ordering I was contacted by the company to make sure that I wanted my edge detail added to all sides of the countertop. My order was placed on hold until I verified. I verified the same day and waited. Approximately 3 weeks later I reached out for an estimate on delivery so I could schedule my installers. I was told that it was in production and would ship the next week. It did not. I called back approximately 10 days later and was told that they’d check with production. The second person that I spoke with told me it was in progress and should ship by the end of the week. It did not. I called a third time to ask what was going on (this is about 6 weeks after ordering) and was told that the order had never been taken off of hold, therefore it was never even started. I had either been lied to about “checking with production” (because it would have been obvious the order was on hold, or this company has some serious organizational problems. Maybe both. They rushed the order after that, and the product is good, which is why I left 2 stars instead of one. Next to the floating shelves. I was told they were done and would be shipped to me, but they never were. When I tried to find out why I got nowhere until I was told that the brackets were out of stock. Those finally came a week later. Through the entire process communication was terrible. 3 times I was told by Cindy that she’d call me back and she never did. I have more of this type of product that I need, but I cannot recommend Hardwood Lumber Co. nor am I going to open myself up to the frustration of working with them again. Extremely frustrating because the products look good.

Your samples are very expensive . In addition the shipping charge of $20 was obscene. I received my 2 samples and the stain was still wet when it was packaged so imperfect, expensive samples were delivered. The wait time is too long to receive your samples. Your timeline is long and reduces motivation to do business with your company. 2 samples cost over $60 and we’re poor quality!

We ordered an end grain butcherblock counter out of hickory, with the Rubio Monocoat finish in natural. We also ordered two matching unfinished shelves. Our order arrived safely, and right on the estimated delivery date. The wood is absolutely beautiful.

As the counter is to be installed against a refrigerator panel and two walls, we were uncertain about requesting an edge detail. (There was not a space when ordering to request specific sides for the detailing.) We left it off and figured we would be fine with a blunt long edge. Upon receiving our order email confirmation, there was a note stating that if you selected an edge detail, to reply back with specific requirements. We contacted and asked if we could add the edge detail, and it was not a problem at all! We're so happy we could do the add-on with no issue, and we now have exactly what we envisioned.

Normally we'd be finishing our own pieces, but this purchase is one part of a larger home renovation, and timing was tight. Our local lumber company did not offer a choice of end-grain patterns or finishing, and wouldn't consider a local pick-up. (Understandable, but a bit disappointing we had to go out of area.) It worked out, so we're glad we discovered Hardwood Lumber Co., especially given the customization options.

These folks were extremely easy to order from and my maple butcherblock island top was beautiful when it came in, and just like I wanted. I recommend them highly.
